Smart Rendering
Smart rendering passes through unedited frames without recompression when the source, project, and template properties match. This preserves quality and can significantly reduce render time.
Requirements
- The source media, project settings, and the selected template must match in width, height, frame rate, field order, profile/level (when applicable), and bit rate.
- Frames with effects, compositing, transitions, or resampling are re-encoded.
- To disable the feature, clear Enable no-recompress rendering on the File I/O tab of the Preferences dialog.
How to smart-render
- Open the Render dialog (Rendering your project).
- Enable Match project settings in the filters to narrow templates to compatible choices.
- Select a format that supports smart rendering (see below) and choose a template whose properties match your project.
- Click Render.
Supported formats
- DV AVI
- DV MXF
- IMX MXF (IMX 24p MXF not supported for no-recompress)
- XAVC Intra MXF
- HD MXF
- MPEG-2 (for example, HDV/DVD camcorder files)
- Panasonic P2
- XDCAM EX (selected SP/HQ profiles)
NOTE
Troubleshooting
- Result is fully re-encoded: Check for any mismatch (frame rate, field order, bit rate). Ensure effects/transitions are not active on the range.
- Feature seems disabled: Verify the Enable no-recompress rendering preference is turned on.
- Unexpected re-encode on short sections: Titles, color correction, stabilization, resampling, or resizing force re-encoding on affected frames.
