Hardware Meters Window

In the menu View, select Hardware Meters to switch the display of the Hardware Meters window on and off. In this window you can set the levels of the hardware outputs of your audio device and display a corresponding level meter.

The Hardware Meters window displays a gain fader for each output that is enabled on the Audio tab of the Preferences dialog. You can use these faders to adjust preview levels.

NOTE The operation of the level meters corresponds to the operation of the channel meters.

The faders in the Hardware Meters window are used to control preview volume only. If you want to change the channel levels in the audio file, use the Normalize effect, Volume or Envelopes.

Drag the fader to adjust the volume of the channel. Double-click the center of the thumb to reset the fader to 0 dB.

Click the Lock/Unlock Channels icon to unlock the sliders to set the left and right channels differently. Click again to reconnect the sliders. During further adjustment, the offset between the controllers is maintained. If the right and left channels are set differently, double-click on one of the two thumbs to set both channels back to a common value.

TIP Hold Shift while dragging a fader to temporarily override the current state of the Lock/Unlock fader channels button: if the button is turned off, you can hold Shift to drag the faders in locked mode; if the button is active, hold Shift to drag the faders independently.
